The fastest and most comfortable method is booking a direct domestic flight from Arusha Airport (ARK) or Serengeti airstrips directly to Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ), which takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Alternatively, if you are departing from Dar es Salaam, you can take a scenic 20-minute flight or a comfortable 2-hour high-speed passenger ferry (operated by Azam Marine) to the Zanzibar ferry port. How do ocean tides affect swimming at the different beaches in Zanzibar?
Zanzibar experiences significant tidal changes twice daily. When is the best time of year to visit Zanzibar for a beach holiday?
The best time to visit Zanzibar is during the dry seasons. The cool dry season from June to October offers pleasant temperatures around 25°C to 28°C, clear blue skies, and very little rain—making it the peak season. The hot dry season from January to February is also excellent, with warmer temperatures perfect for water sports. We recommend avoiding the main rainy season from mid-March through May, when heavy monsoon rains can cause some resorts to close, as well as the short rains in November and December, which typically bring brief, daily afternoon showers.
