Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut & Maundi Crater
Begin with an early morning pickup from your hotel or lodge in Arusha or Moshi and meet your professional BMC TOURS & SAFARIS mountain guide. Receive a safari briefing before your transfer to Mount Kilimanjaro.
Your adventure begins at Marangu Gate, where you’ll register with Kilimanjaro National Park authorities and meet your porters. As you start the hike, your guide will lead you along well marked trails that wind through the lush, misty rainforest. Listen to the rustle of leaves and birdsong while spotting playful blue monkeys and striking black and white colobus monkeys among the canopy. The trail passes through different ecological zones, giving you a sense of Kilimanjaro’s diverse habitats.
During the trek, you’ll experience moments of quiet reflection as you breathe in the crisp mountain air, pause to admire towering trees, and feel the energy of nature surrounding you. After approximately 3–4 hours, you’ll arrive at Mandara Hut at 2,700 meters, where a packed lunch awaits. Take time to relax, enjoy the breathtaking views, and capture memorable photos.
