After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate for registration and final trek preparations. The trail begins through dense montane rainforest filled with towering trees, colorful birds, and occasional monkey sightings. The gradual ascent provides an excellent introduction to Kilimanjaro’s unique ecosystem while allowing your body to adjust to the climb. The forest scenery remains spectacular throughout the day, with lush vegetation lining the winding trail. By late afternoon, you arrive at Machame Camp where the mountain crew will have tents prepared. Enjoy a hot meal and your first night on the mountain.

Today's trek leaves the rainforest behind and enters the heather and moorland zone. The trail ascends steep rocky ridges before opening onto the magnificent Shira Plateau. Along the route, stunning views of Mount Meru and the surrounding valleys emerge as vegetation gradually changes. Giant heather plants and volcanic landscapes dominate the scenery. Upon reaching Shira Camp, you are rewarded with panoramic views of Kibo Peak and Kilimanjaro’s expansive western slopes. The afternoon is spent resting, hydrating, and acclimatizing while enjoying one of the mountain’s most scenic campsites.
Dinner and overnight at Shira Camp
This important acclimatization day follows the principle of “climb high, sleep low.” The route gradually ascends toward Lava Tower, a dramatic volcanic formation rising from the alpine desert. Reaching over 4,600 meters helps your body adapt to higher elevations before descending to Barranco Camp. Along the way, enjoy incredible views of glaciers, rocky valleys, and unique high altitude vegetation including giant senecios. The descent into Barranco Valley reveals one of the most beautiful campsites on Kilimanjaro, located beneath the imposing Barranco Wall.
Dinner and overnight at Barranco Camp
After breakfast, begin the exciting scramble up the famous Barranco Wall. Although steep, it is non technical and offers spectacular views across the mountain. The trail then traverses the Southern Circuit, passing through Karanga Valley before continuing toward Barafu Camp. The landscape becomes increasingly barren as you enter the alpine desert zone. Upon arrival at Barafu Camp, lunch is served before spending the afternoon resting and preparing for summit night. An early dinner allows for several hours of sleep before the midnight ascent.
Dinner and overnight at Barafu Camp
Just after midnight, you begin the final ascent toward Uhuru Peak. Guided by headlamps beneath a star filled sky, the trail climbs steeply to Stella Point on the crater rim. As dawn breaks, magnificent views of glaciers and surrounding peaks create an unforgettable experience. From Stella Point, a final push leads to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement and taking photographs, descend carefully to Barafu Camp for a short rest and lunch before continuing down to Mweka Camp through changing ecological zones. This is the most demanding yet rewarding day of the expedition.
Dinner and overnight at Mweka Camp
Following breakfast, begin the final descent through lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate. The trail is scenic and gradually becomes warmer as oxygen levels increase. Upon reaching the gate, climbers receive their official summit certificates and celebrate with the mountain crew. A transfer vehicle then returns you to Arusha where a comfortable bed, hot shower, and well deserved relaxation await. Spend the evening reflecting on your incredible achievement while enjoying the luxury and comfort of your lodge.
