Today's trek leads you out of the rainforest and into the heather and moorland zone. The vegetation changes dramatically as giant groundsels and senecios begin to dominate the landscape. As the trail climbs along ridges and valleys, magnificent views of Kibo Peak and Mount Meru may appear on clear days. The route eventually joins the Machame Trail before reaching Barranco Camp, located beneath the impressive Barranco Wall. This scenic camp is considered one of the most beautiful on Kilimanjaro and provides an excellent environment for acclimatization, photography opportunities, relaxation, and preparation for higher elevations ahead.

Begin the day by conquering the famous Barranco Wall, a thrilling non-technical scramble that rewards climbers with spectacular panoramic views. After reaching the top, continue across rolling ridges and valleys with impressive views of glaciers and surrounding peaks. The trail traverses alpine desert terrain before descending into the Karanga Valley and climbing again to Karanga Camp. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch and rest before an optional acclimatization hike to higher elevations. This shorter day is important for altitude adaptation, conserving energy, improving acclimatization, and preparing your body for the upcoming summit stages.
