Hadzabe Hunt, Blacksmith Demonstration & Karatu
Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your Arusha hotel by your BMC TOURS & SAFARIS guide. The scenic drive takes you southwest to the remote shores of Lake Eyasi, nestled between the Rift Valley escarpments. Upon arrival, you will first visit the Datoga community, skilled pastoralists and blacksmiths known for their intricate metalwork. Observe the ancient art of transforming recycled metals into jewelry and arrowheads using traditional techniques passed down through generations.
After lunch, you will venture out to meet the Hadzabe people, whose way of life has remained unchanged for over 10,000 years. Your BMC guide facilitates communication as you learn about their unique click-based language and observe their daily routines. As dusk settles over the alkaline lake, you return to your comfortable lodge in Karatu.
Dinner and overnight at Marera Valley Lodge
Descend Into Crater Caldera & Big Five Safari
You will rise before dawn and, after an early breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Your BMC guide will handle park formalities before you descend 600 meters into the world's largest intact volcanic caldera—often called "Africa's Garden of Eden." The crater floor is a wildlife paradise, home to over 25,000 large animals including the iconic Big Five. Spend your morning exploring the diverse habitats, from the lake area frequented by flamingos to the open grasslands where lions stalk zebras and wildebeest.
Keep your camera ready for the endangered black rhino, which is regularly spotted here. Enjoy a scenic picnic lunch at the beautiful Ngoitokitok Springs, watching hippos wallow in the pool nearby.
