Frequently Asked Questions

Ngorongoro Safari Lodge is nestled on the forested crater rim, offering spectacular panoramas of the caldera, warm service, cozy fireplaces, and spacious suites designed for comfort in the cool high-altitude climate.
Yes, due to its high altitude (around 2,200 meters or 7,200 feet), the crater rim can get quite chilly, especially in the evenings and early mornings. We recommend packing a warm fleece or jacket.
Ngorongoro Crater offers one of the highest wildlife densities in Africa, making it very common to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, and leopards. It is also one of the best places in Tanzania to spot the endangered black rhino, making a single-day Big Five sighting highly possible.
Yes, large bull elephants frequently roam the forests around the crater rim and can sometimes be seen near the lodges, browsing the lush montane canopy.
Crater descents are regulated by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA). Safaris are limited to a maximum of 6 hours per permit on the crater floor to minimize ecological impact.
The crater floor offers excellent wildlife viewing year-round due to the permanent water sources. The dry season (June to October) is ideal for spotting predators, while the wet season (November to May) brings lush green landscapes and migratory birds.
