Day 1 drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Depart Arusha in the morning aboard a shared 4×4 safari vehicle and travel to Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania's hidden gems and a favorite among wildlife enthusiasts. Covering nearly 2,850 square kilometers, the park is renowned for its ancient baobab trees, sweeping savannahs, seasonal wetlands, and the year round Tarangire River, a vital water source that attracts exceptional concentrations of wildlife during the dry season. Tarangire is especially famous for its impressive elephant herds, often numbering in the hundreds, as well as lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, wildebeests, elands, and more than 550 bird species. Stop to enjoy lunch at a designated picnic area surrounded by nature before continuing your afternoon game drive. Later, proceed to Marera Valley Lodge near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area for dinner and an overnight stay.

Journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend more than 600 meters into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world's largest intact volcanic caldera. Often referred to as Africa's Garden of Eden, the crater forms a natural wildlife sanctuary supporting one of the highest densities of animals on the continent. Explore its diverse ecosystems, including open grasslands, acacia forests, freshwater springs, marshes, and Lake Magadi, each attracting a remarkable variety of wildlife. Keep watch for the Big Five, including the endangered black rhinoceros, as well as lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, hyenas, cheetahs, jackals, wildebeests, zebras, and thousands of flamingos along the soda lake. Enjoy lunch at a scenic picnic site on the crater floor before continuing your game drive.
